Abstrak

Upper limb spasticity is a common complication following subacute non-hemorrhagic stroke, significantly impairing hand function. Non-pharmacological therapeutic modalities such as Super Inductive System (SIS) and Radial Extracorporeal Shock Wave Therapy (r-ESWT) have been widely used, yet direct comparisons of their effectiveness remain limited in Indonesia. This was an experimental study with a pre- and post-test group design. Thirty subacute non-hemorrhagic stroke patients with upper limb spasticity were randomly assigned to two intervention groups: SIS and r-ESWT. Each group underwent 10 therapy sessions combined with standard rehabilitation. Evaluations were conducted using the Modified Ashworth Scale (MAS) for spasticity and the Sollerman Hand Function Test (SHT) for hand function. Both interventions significantly reduced spasticity and improved hand function (p<0.05). However, r-ESWT demonstrated statistically greater effectiveness than SIS in lowering MAS scores and improving SHT scores (p<0.05). Both SIS and r-ESWT are effective in reducing spasticity and enhancing hand function in subacute stroke patients. Nevertheless, r-ESWT showed superior outcomes and may be considered the preferred intervention for managing upper limb spasticity after stroke.
